The N1 South at the Atterbury offramp has been reopened for traffic after an accident yesterday afternoon. The N1 North will remain closed as work on a crane continues. The crane was damaged in the accident and was in danger of falling down. Engineers worked through the night to stabilise the crane. They found that the crane had moved by about a metre. The crane will now have to be dismantled and rebuilt. Part of the bridge that burnt will also be scraped and rebuilt. Tshwane Community Safety spokesman, Consol Tleane says there is a possibility that one lane on the N1 South may be closed later. Motorists using the N1 South are still encouraged to add more travelling time due to the on-lookers effect. A truck transporting iron rods plunged into a cement-mixing truck and three other vehicles before smashing into a crane at a road works construction site at 5pm yesterday. 1 person died and two were injured.
